Most of you know me and Ricky Whitaker lived next door to each other. Anyway we had just gotten off the bus and it hadn't gone 100 yards and we heard a loud noise, one of the wheels on the back had come completly off the bus. The buses were all lined up at the elementary school and the high school kids walked over and we all got on the buses, and when we were leaving the bus I was on ran into the back of another one. A bus in front of us stopped to allow another one to get in line and because it was raining, our brakes didn't work. Our bus driver, who was a student driver at the time literally stood on the brake pedal to try to stop. I was watching the entire thing and knew we were about to hit the bus in front of us. I put my feet up against the seat in front of me, but I was too weak to hold myself back. Well, the school bus riders will remember the metal bar that trimmed the backs of the seats. My mouth hit that metal bar and knocked out my front teeth. Frankie was in the seat next to mine and she hit her nose on the metal bar. We were taken to the local doctors, who treated us. It was pretty scary.
